Question about Hamsa/ Hamesh..?
Okay, I am jewish by birth and upbringing, but I have been out of the loop for a while and I recently realized how little I knew about my religion…. That said, I need help!
I just discovered the Hamsa hand symbol and I am very intrigued…. Can someone give me some history on it, and I would also like to know if it is mainly used in kaballah, not other types of judiasim. Also, in terms of its meaning for the jewish religion, should it be upside down (fingers pointing down), or right side up (fingers pointing up)??

The chamsa is not a Jewish symbol, it is Middle Eastern in origin and used by the Arabs (and Persians, too, I believe) for the same reason the Jews use it: to ward off the evil eye. It doesn’t matter which way it is pointing.
